It Helpdesk Interview Questions.

Prepare yourself for an It help desk interview, the below are the basic and important differrences.

Workgroup

In a workgroup:

*All computers are peers; no computer has control over another computer.

*Each computer has a set of user accounts. To use any computer in the workgroup, you must have an account on that computer.

*There are typically no more than ten to twenty computers.

*All computers must be on the same local network or subnet.

Domain

In a domain:

*One or more computers are servers. Network administrators use servers to control the security and permissions for all computers on the domain. This makes it easy to make changes because the changes are automatically made to all computers.

*If you have a user account on the domain, you can log on to any computer on the domain without needing an account on that computer.

*There can be hundreds or thousands of computers.

*The computers can be on different local networks.

OST & PST

Ost is a cached file.

st is a local file with stored emails

The difference between an .ost file and a set of .pst files is that the .ost file starts as a mirror image of your folders on the Exchange Server, and works in conjunction with the Exchange Serve during synchronization. A set of .pst files, on the other hand, is simply a storage location on your hard disk or a server other than the Exchange Server.

Local & Network Printer

**A Local printer is a printer that is hooked up to your machine only. It can be hooked up using either a USB cable or Parallel Cable.

**A
network printer is a printer that is hooked up to a network jack in the wall. Other people can print to this printer if they have it setup on their machine. Many larger offices have a "shared" network printer.

Internet & Intranet

Internet refers to the world wide web and is open to anyone with internet access.

Intranet refers to the internet within a firewall, accessible to people within a protected network.

What port does SMTP use?

SMTP is a Simple mail transfer protocol it is used to send the email inside the network.

The port used is 25

VPN

A VPN is a method of connecting to a private network (for example, your office network) by way of a public network (for example, the Internet).

    * Allows you to be at home and access your company's computers in the same way as if you were sitting at work.

    * Almost impossible for someone to tap or interfer with data in the VPN tunnel.

    * If you have VPN client software on a laptop, you can connect to your company from anywhere in the world.

How to reset Internet explorer to default mailbox

   1. Do not open Internet Explorer. Make sure all browser Windows and other applications (including email) are closed.

   2. Right-click the Internet Explorer icon on the desktop

   3. Choose 'Properties'

   4. Click the 'Programs' tab

   5. Click the 'Reset Web Settings' button

   6. Click 'Apply'

   7. Click 'OK'
